I Cannot Change The world

I cannot stop the tanks

Or rescue all the children

Caught up in war.

I cannot clean the plastic from the oceans

Or stop the sewage

Pouring into streams and rivers.

I cannot unburn the fossil fuels

Or stitch the hole

In the ozone layer.

I cannot force the politicians

To shut their mouths

And open their hearts.

But I can pick up the litter

Dropped on my path,

Offer a room

To a refugee,

Turn off the lights

When I’m not at home,

And speak my truth to power.

No, I cannot change the world,

But I can make my corner of it

A little better.
